Energy Efficient Curtains – As any decorator will inform you, Energy Efficient Curtains create a space — but just when selected properly. If it comes to window treatments, it’s a matter of colour and fabric, length and lining, and custom-made versus off-the-shelf. With all these choices, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, so we asked a couple of experts for advice about narrowing down the options and choosing the right Energy Efficient Curtains for your home.
Fabric is an essential part of choosing Energy Efficient Curtains, because the substance will dictate how well your Energy Efficient Curtains work and hold up with time.
“If they are too heavy, they may not fold crisply when attracted; too mild and they might not fall well,” says designer Suysel DePedro Cunningham of Tilton Fenwick.

Lana Lawrence, who’s vice president of Anthony Lawrence-Belfair curtain fabricators and that works with designers such as Alexa Hampton and Katie Ridder, suggests holding cloths up to a window, even in a cloth showroom. “Pleat it like an accordion at the top and let it drape,” she says. “If it begins to flare as a piece of crinoline, then it’s not likely to fall nicely on the window”
Work with a big sample, at least 2 yards, as a smaller bit might not show the fabric’s true drape.
Also, remember sun will fade fabrics over time. If the space in question gets a good deal of light, it is smart to avoid bright colours, because they tend to fade quicker.
“However, if you like to change your rooms out many times, you can be less concerned with fading,” says Alice Guercio, vice president of product development at Kravet. Cunningham suggests going with neutral colours, because they’re less likely to fade than other colors and more likely to blend into a room’s decor.
In regards to material, linen, silk, faux lace and silk are the best choices to use for window treatments since they have a tendency to hang the best, states Guercio. “Faux silk tends to be the most durable,” she states. And in a particularly sunny room, faux silk doesn’t deteriorate as quickly as real silk.

Some fabrics can help keep out the cold. Many hotels use suede, velvet, tapestry or tweed because their weight helps block mild and keep heat in. Still, any fabric could be interlined with bulge, a thick, insulation material. And interlining — a bit of cloth slipped between the lining and the face cloth — may also help extend the life span of the Energy Efficient Curtains.
“If silk is unlined, it will rot,” says Lawrence.
Before you take out the tape measure, pick how high above the window you’d prefer the Energy Efficient Curtains to start. “Hanging panels greater than the window provides a feeling of height to the room,” says Cunningham.
Measure from the top of the window (plus the additional inches of elevation at which the Energy Efficient Curtains will hang from) to the ground. For a more traditional look, using the curtain marginally puddled on the floor, you’re going to want to add another two or three inches to your length. For a contemporary, crisp appearance, have the plank fall flush with the floor.
When measuring the width of your window, then make certain to add four to eight inches on both sides and double the total number to guarantee curtain fullness. “Then you won’t obstruct a lot of window glass whenever the Energy Efficient Curtains are available, and they won’t get in the way,” says Lawrence.

If you’re planning on using the Energy Efficient Curtains to shut out sunlight, those extra inches around the perimeter of your window frame will also help block any sun light light.
Custom window treatments offer many benefits: You can customize the measurements to your window dimensions and make a tailored look, such as a perfectly-fitted suit. Custom made panels arrive in endless design options, in the substance to header style. With these choices, though, comes a considerable price difference from off-the-shelf curtain panels.
If habit Energy Efficient Curtains just aren’t in your budget, Cunningham proposes spending a little more money on high-quality retail window treatments. She and her spouse, Anne Maxwell Foster, such as Restoration Hardware’s Belgian Heavyweight Textured Linen Energy Efficient Curtains.
