Art Deco Curtains – As any decorator will inform you, Art Deco Curtains make a space — but only when selected properly. When it comes to window treatments, it is a matter of colour and fabric, length and lining, and custom-made versus off-the-shelf. With so many choices, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, so we requested a few experts for advice about narrowing down the choices and selecting the proper Art Deco Curtains for your property.
Fabric is an essential part of picking Art Deco Curtains, because the material will dictate how well your Art Deco Curtains function and hold up over time.
“If they’re too heavy, they might not fold crisply when drawn; overly mild and they might not fall nicely,” says designer Suysel DePedro Cunningham of Tilton Fenwick.

Lana Lawrence, who’s vice president of Anthony Lawrence-Belfair drape fabricators and who works with designers such as Alexa Hampton and Katie Ridder, indicates holding cloths up to a window, even in a fabric showroom. “Pleat it as an accordion at the top and let it drape,” she states. “When it starts to flare as a piece of crinoline, then it is not going to fall nicely on the window”
Work with a big sample, at least two yards, since a smaller bit may not demonstrate the cloth’s true drape.
Also, remember sunlight will fade fabrics with time. In case the room in question gets a good deal of light, it’s smart to steer clear of bright colors, because they tend to fade faster.
“However, if you prefer to change out your rooms often, you can be less concerned with fading,” says Alice Guercio, vice president of product development at Kravet. Cunningham suggests going with neutral colors, since they’re less likely to fade than other colors and more inclined to blend to a room’s decor.
When it comes to material, lace, silk, artificial silk and velvet are the top options to use for window treatments because they tend to hang the best, says Guercio. “Faux silk tends to be the most lasting,” she states. And in a particularly bright area, faux silk does not deteriorate as quickly as real silk.

Some fabrics can keep the cold out. Many resorts use suede, velvet, tapestry or tweed because their burden helps block light and retain heat in. However, nearly any fabric could be interlined with bulge, a thick, insulation material. Along with interlining — a piece of cloth slipped between the lining and the face cloth — can also help prolong the life span of their Art Deco Curtains.
“If silk is unlined, it will rust,” says Lawrence.
Before you take out the tape measure, decide how high above the window you would like the Art Deco Curtains to begin. “Hanging panels greater than the window will give a sense of height into the room,” says Cunningham. Designers often hang Art Deco Curtains about six inches over the window frame, but for a stunning appearance, some move higher.
Measure from the top of the window (plus the additional inches of elevation at which the Art Deco Curtains will hang from) into the floor. For a more traditional look, using the curtain marginally puddled on the ground, you’re going to want to add the next two or three inches to your length. For a modern, crisp appearance, have the plank collapse flush with the floor.
After measuring the width of the window, then make certain to add four to eight inches on either side and double the entire number to ensure curtain fullness. “Then you won’t obstruct a lot of window glass whenever the Art Deco Curtains are open, and they won’t get in the way,” says Lawrence.

If you plan to use the Art Deco Curtains to shut out sunlight, those extra inches around the perimeter of your window frame will also help block any creeping light.
Custom made window treatments offer many benefits: You can customize the measurements to your window size and make a tailored look, such as a perfectly-fitted suit. Custom made panels come in endless design options, in the substance to header design. With these choices, though, comes a substantial price difference from off-the-shelf panels.
If habit Art Deco Curtains just are not in your financial plan, Cunningham proposes spending a little more money on high-quality retail window treatments. She and her partner, Anne Maxwell Foster, like Restoration Hardware’s Belgian Heavyweight Textured Linen Art Deco Curtains.
